September 2004
This weekend we have chance to put the powers of recovery of our “young men” to the test as we entertain Weoley Hill on
Saturday and then have home and away fixtures against Bewdley on Sunday.Fresh from tour in Bolton there will no doubt
be much tale swapping amongst players and supporters alike. Another beautiful Autumn, ( yes it is Autumn ), weekend is
forecast so come along and enjoy the sunshine.
NEWS FROM TOUR - Read the
report
So far, so average……
Our intrepid band came second to
Hindley St Peters and had to seek solace in a tapas bar on Sunday. Monday’s
match against Astley Bridge was
unfortunately called off by the
opposition. Finding themselves with a spare
afternoon the team decided to
follow top-tourist Max to the nearest Yates’ Wine Lodge. It’s a hard life on
tour!
Tour Update…
The Green’s first win on tour came
against Heywood on Wednesday with a victory of some 100 runs
followed by a second success on
Thursday against Grimsargh. Meanwhile The Green’s Groundsman appears
to have taken a liking to the
local Northern Brew and Yates’ are running low on Chardonnay.
Is there a Doctor in the house !!!!!

3rds Confirmed as Champions
The 3rds have won division seven without having to play as Nomads
are unable to field a side.
Congratulations to Cyril and everyone else involved.!
Barnards
Green cricket Club rounded off the end of the season in fine style by bringing
home yet another league title.
With
the first eleven already crowned champions of Division 3, the third eleven have
now taken the honours in division 7.
Needing
just 10 points to clinch the title, they picked up 24 when Worcester Nomads
dropped out at the last minute unable to raise a side.
Captain
Cyril Dean said, 'Whilst it is disappointing to clinch the title due to a team
not honouring its fixture,
we felt
confident that we would win the game anyway. We have had a team of
experience mixed with youth all season
and the
youngsters have certainly not let us down. It is testament to the clubs
youth policy that we have so many
youngsters
coming through into senior level cricket and all bodes well for next season.'
The firsts finished the season off in style with a 5 run victory at struggling
Rushwick whilst the seconds
also
had a resounding victory winning by 54 runs with 16 year old Sam Spencer taking
5 for 21
This
could put them 2nd in their league. The singles however came unstuck at Stone
and will finish mid table in division 5.
This
week a party of 30 will tour Lancashire and are based in Bolton.
Weekend Action - 28th / 29th August.
With the firsts and seconds promoted to the dizzy heights
of Division Two and the Singles safe,
all eyes will be on the 3rds on Saturday as they take on
Nomads at Newland in an effort to
secure
their championship title.
Some 14 points separate us from the second place team and
obviously with a maximum of 24 points
at stake each week then anything can happen. Get along
and support Cyril’s boys if you can.
Meanwhile the 1st and 2nd teams take on Rushwick whilst the singles
travel to Stone.
Oh… and something called TOUR kicks off on Sunday!
